Dancing In The Street

Peter Jacques Band, a seminal band in the eighties, released in 1985 the Dancing In The Street LP, a perfect blend of American and Italo Disco. Ecstatic.

Peter Jacques Band - All Right Let’s Go

Peter Jacques Band - This Night

Peter Jacques Band - Drives Me Crazy

On a side note, it is worth noting that Change - Let’s Go Together is actually the exact same song as the first one. Jacques Fred Petrus is the producer of both bands.

Season Of The Witch

A Halloween movie sequel without Michael Myers? It did happen and I’m talking about Halloween III: Season of the Witch here. The movie was… well, below average. But the score was up big time. Thanks to John Carpenter with the help of Alan Howarth.

John Carpenter & Alan Howarth - Goodbye Ellie (1982)

(And it will obviously not be the last ticket devoted to John Carpenter as I am one of his self-confessed zealots)

Hanna Haïs

Hanna Haïs and the legend Chez Damier

Hanna Haïs has been producing special blends of latin house since 2002, she always benefits from great remixes and is surely someone to check out.

\ˈmat-el-vin,\ ?

Another artist from the informal Valerie crew I’ve recently stumbled upon, Maethelvin (whatever how it’s pronounced) has an interesting sound.

The analogy with The Outrunners‘ sound (recently reviewed) is quite appropriate but there’s something else and I can’t define it. One thing for sure, it sounds good.

Le Messager

Not disco at all, not even electronic, but nonetheless worth listening. The OST of Joseph Losey’s The Go-Between by Michel Legrand.

Michel Legrand - Theme From “Le Messager” (1972)

Interesting trivia, the main theme from the French TV documentaries Faites Entrer L’Accusé is directly inspired by this piece of work. The piano melody from the intro is almost identical (section not included in the preview).

Discoman

Reprogrammed by disco scientist Johan Agebjörn, Megaman is back to rock the dancefloor! This bootleg is quite an oddity but so fun to play.

Plants and Life

I don’t know much about Joël Fajerman except that he used to produce a lot of soundtracks for the French television during the eighties.

Anyway, his whole work is really inspiring. Just take a listen to the main theme for a French series called l’Aventure Des Plantes and make up your own opinion.

Joël Fajerman - Flowers Love (1982)

For all you curious people over here, Flowers Love has been played using a Prophet V (main theme and soundscape layers) and an Arp Odyssey (with a resonant filter, for the distinct ‘voice-like’ sound) and sequenced through a 16-step analog Arp sequencer.

Disco Romance

Sally Shapiro released her first album in november 2006 and it was clearly one of the best discoveries of this past year. It’s full of nostalgic intents blended with energetic italo disco beats. A positive regression and an obvious homage to the best of italo disco.

Two samples from Disco Romance, available on Diskokaine Records.
