African Love

sexysafari.jpg

The Afro Rhythm Group - African Love
(1985 - Pineapple Records)

A typical, politically incorrect slice of sexy 80’s sleaze where NO means YES. This aural equivalent of films like Decamerone Nera or La Principessa Nuda/The Nude Princess (out on dvd and starring the vacantly staring Ajita Wilson)  is supposed to be “set” in Africa but the lady vocalist is laughing and protesting in Italian.

Moebius 265

Zanov

Zanov - Moebius 256
(1977 - Polydor)

Minimal electrodisco. Despite his name Zanov however is not some sinister Soviet Union sound laboratory engineer working under fluorescent tube lights, he is from France.

Where’d You Get What You Got

9571e8718713.jpg Seriously, this one bangs on all cylinders.

Noteworthy trivia: the bleepy electronic sections are programmed by Don Ray and Georges Rodi - from Arpadys/Tele Music fame.

Captain Future

181293467_b8a5022738_o.jpg Every thirty or twentysomething will easily remember this old anime, named differently according to the country that broadcast the show (e.g. Captain Future, Capitan Futuro or Capitaine Flam).

It is worth noting that every European country had its own version of the OST. While, in France for example, Jean-Jacques Debout (see previous post) recorded it, Christian Bruhn released his own version for the German market, in 1980.

Christian Bruhn - Gefahr
Christian Bruhn - Vor dem Start
Christian Bruhn - Durch den Weltraum nach Hause

This OST spawned countless remixes and cover versions. Some are o.k., others are really bad.

The original:
Christian Bruhn - Feinde greifen an
The remake:
Phil Fuldner - The Final (Chronovisor Mix) (1998)

The original:
Christian Bruhn - Space - Wind
The remake:
Wildchild - All Together (1996) - I should still have my Mokum T-shirt somewhere, cleanly packed…

Ami-Amie

temps-de-vacances.JPG

J.-J. Debout & J.-D. Mercier - Ami-Amie (1978)

The OST of French film “Le Temps Des Vacances” ( about a 15 yrs old girl who takes her school teacher as her holiday lover)  has a ridiculous sleeve but inside there’s a piece of electro-lite disco that apparently got totally ignored when new, like so many interesting soundtrack tunes.

The track is credited to Jean-Jacques Debout and Jean-Daniel Mercier. Is the latter guy related to Frédéric Mercier, the man behind the fab Pacific album?

Dance Macabre

bomarzo.JPG

VC-People - Dance Macabre (1980)

Another one from Germany - a moody dark disco track of a krautrock LP “Mystery of Bomarzo“.

Recorded at Emulab Electronic Music Laboratory Munich, with synthesizers from Roland, Oberheim, Moog and Sequiental Circuits. Sequencers from Roland ABZ Zet-Electronics. Vocoder from Syntovox. Music computer from Fairlight using Fairlight’s Music-composition language. Sound-recording and mixing by Klaus Netzle and  Hans Mühlbauer. Digital informations have been used for sound-generation and as control-functions for analog systems. Sehr impressive, ja?

There’s another lesser dance tune “Moonless Night” but rest of the LP is basically crap, vocal tracks with an occult narrative of some sort.

Squadra Antigangsters

squadra11.jpg

Two of the blog favourites teaming up for an OST (their one and only collaboration I think). This is the only remarkable thing about this movie from 1979, don’t even bother trying to watch it for Asha’s cameo role. You’ve been warned.

Goblin & Asha Puthli - The Whip
Goblin & Asha Puthli - The Sound Of Money
Goblin - Squadra Antigangsters (Movie Take 1)
